Hannah Walters

Hannah Walters

Hannah is a ceramic artist based in Narberth, Pembrokeshire. She recently spent three years studying Contemporary Crafts at Falmouth University in Cornwall where she specialised in ceramics.

Her work has strong ties with narrative, through both text and form. From celebrating individuals life stories to engaging with completely fantasy worlds. What she wants is to engage people with these stories, to relate to something in their memory or sparking off narratives of their own. This leads on to the illustrative aspect of her work, including drawing on pieces as well as creating marks on work to reference the sketching that brought the work to life.

There has always been a strong classical influence over her work, she returns time and time again to studying ancient Greek, Roman, and the resulting renaissance styled, statues. The celebrated classical figurative form strongly underlines her sculptures.

She has looked at a number of topics from the celebration of historical figures to a wry look at the way we consume as a modern society. What she runs through her bodies of work is a small quirk of humour. She wants to entertain, to engage to viewer and extract a reaction from them.
