Mathew Edenbrow

Mathew Edenbrow

My work draws upon my life long fascination with wild animals and the natural world and seeks to capture everyday moments within an animals life.  By exploring these moments I aim to provide insight into animal behavior and how small, often minute changes in body form or expression can convey not only information, but also give insight into an individuals intent, motivation and emotional state. My work is strongly informed from my varied life experiences with animals and my academic understanding of animal behaviour that I gained during, and after being awarded my PhD investigating animal personality. It was during the early stages of my academic career that I came to fully appreciate and get excited by the complexities of animal behavior.  I  now draw upon these experiences, using clay as a medium to explore the beauty of the animal form and  hopefully reveal something to the observer previously unnoticed about animal I'm sculpting.
