Mae blancedi, siolau a charthenni Cymraeg yn eiconig ac yn gysylltiad weledol ac emosiynol i’n hanes ers yr ugeinfed ganrif. Rwyf wedi datblygu y casgliad yma o lestri i gyfeirio at hyn drwy atsain patrymau lliwgar y blancedi a charthenni. Rwyf wedi creu’r ffurfiau drwy lapio haen dennau o glai porslen fel blanced, ar ôl creu’r patrymau gyda slip lliwgar. Rwyf wedi defnyddio gwlân yn rhan o’r addurn gyda rhai o’r darnau, sydd yn wrthgyferbyniad gweadol i’r porslen. My mwriad yw creu gwaith sydd yn gyfoes ac hefyd yn cysylltu yn emosiynol gyda ein gorffennol ac yn plethu adroddiant ffeministaidd, hunaniaeth a mangre.

Graddiodd Olwen gyda gradd BA (Hons) Serameg, Dosbarth 1af, o Goleg Sir Gâr, Caerfyrddin yn 2014. Mynychodd y cwrs rhan amser dros chwech mlynedd. Cyn hyn, aeth i nifer o gyrsiau celfyddydol hamdden, yn cynnwys tair mlynedd yn America ble taniwyd ei diddordeb mewn serameg. Mae hi’n gweithio yn ei stiwdio ym Mhontargothi ac mae croeso i chi ddod draw i ymweld a’i stiwdio a’r oriel fach.

Since the twentieth century, the cultural icons of blankets, shawls and carthenni have been a visual and emosional link to our history in Wales. I have created a series of vessels which reference the colourful patterns of these Welsh icons. The vessels are created by folding and wrapping a layer of porcelain which has been mono printed with the coloured slip pattern. Some of the pieces have wool stiching which creates a textural contrast to the porcelain. My intention is to create contemporary ceramics that has an emotional link with our past and combines the narratives of feminism, place and identity.

Olwen graduated in 2014 with a BA Ceramics (Hons) 1st Class from Coleg Sir Gâr in Carmarthen. She completed the course part-time over six years. Prior to this, she participated in several community education art classes, including three years of ceramics while living in America. She now works from her studio in Pontargothi and welcomes visitors, by appointment, to see her studio and small gallery.
