Tanya Rotherfield

Tanya Rotherfield

Tanya Rotherfield's art practice is primarily Drawing and more recently Printmaking as both these techniques offer her an extensive visual language.  A significant proportion of her time is dedicated to experimental mark making using a wide diversity of materials, the results of which are used to extend her practice and visual dialogue with the viewer.

"The organic subject matter for my images is closely observed, usually under a microscope.  At this point in my research I make many detailed sketches to ascertain shape, tone and texture.  The finished images evolve out of these sketches and usually show little resemblance to the original object, but have many of its characteristics."

Tanya's expansion into printmaking has added the dimensions of colour and previously unexplored textures to her work.  By constant experimentation with different printmaking techniques and inks she hopes to take her mark making and images to a new level.
