'New Beginings' - Aberystwyth Printmakers

Members of Aberystwyth Printmakers will be presenting new work for the forthcoming exhibition ‘New Beginnings’ due to open at the King Street Gallery in Carmarthen on Easter Wednesday, 24 April. The show will feature a wide selection of images, printed using a diversity of printmaking techniques including linocut, woodcut, etching, screenprinting and lithography.

Aberystwyth Printmakers was established in 2004 and has around 60-70 members comprising of both professional and amateur artists, printmakers, students and members of the public who are interested in printmaking. The group was initially set up to help provide support and facilities for printmakers, principally in Aberystwyth, however the group has since expanded to include members from across Wales and the UK, Ireland, Germany and as far away as Australia.

The group provides a forum for artists to make contact with each other, to meet, discuss and share ideas and to provide opportunities for making and exhibiting prints. Four keynote lectures are organized annually and are held between the Art Centre, School of Art, National Library and Ceredigion Museum. Over the last fifteen years the group has exhibited at galleries across the UK and further afield through exchange projects in Hong Kong, USA, Australia and New Zealand.

Currently the group has a workshop located in Aberystwyth University’s Old College Building, and has facilities for etching, relief printing and lithography. Workshops and classes run at the studio have been well-supported and have attracted artists and practitioners offering Master Classes in collagraph printing, drypoint, lithography, woodcut and wood engraving, Mokulito and printing from plaster.
