Chate Room

The Chate Room, hire for workshops, for talks, for exhibitions.

The Chate Room

The Chate Room has been named in honour of one of our founding members, John Malcolm Chate, who sadly passed away just before the launch of our new premises in October 2012. The room is newly refurbished, self-contained and located to the rear of the main gallery. It contains the original wood floors, thick stone walling and plenty of natural light from north-facing windows overlooking the streets to the rear. The room is believed to be medieval in origin and provides an ideal space for workshops or guest artists.

The original character of this room has been maintained, therefore, the walls are slightly curved and not square to each other, the ceiling height varies and we do advise that if you require an accurate measurement, please feel free to come into the gallery during open hours and take your own measurements.  Click here to see a rough plan of the room.

Chate Room Floor Plan

The Chate room has 4 double electrical sockets and plenty of window light. Although a

professional hanging system is in place, you are able to use the walls and mount directly to them

however all walls must be fully repaired for inspection at the end of the exhibition. Plinths, chairs,

tables and a projector are all available upon request.

Workshops, talks & demonstrations

As well as being a beautiful space for exhibiting, the Chate room also lends itself to workshops,

talks and demonstrations very well. King Street Gallery hires tutors and artists to run these events

and as an exhibitor, you're very much welcome to hold your own event where you will be paid. As

well as reducing your costs, this is an excellent way to increase your audience during the

exhibition. As these events are held on a regular basis by the gallery, as an exhibitor in the Chate

room, your work is being opened up to a wide audience. However, these events will not infringe

on your exhibition during gallery opening hours or your private viewing. Please speak to a gallery

member or e-mail: admin@kingstreetgallery.co.uk for more information on these events.
