New exhibition in the Chate Room at King Street Gallery

A group of Carmarthenshire based ceramicists have taken over the Chate room this May.

Titled "Clay in May", the exhibition demonstrates the versatility of clay medium through the group's work, which includes sculptural pieces and vessels. They are inspired by both the human form and the landscape, with narratives of place,  identity and nostalgia being a strong influence.

The group is made up of the following artists, Olwen Thomas, Hilary Coole, Lindy Martin, Sally Rogers, Jacky John, Cheryl Thomas.

The special viewing will be held on Saturday 11th May, from 3pm - 7pm.  Complimentary refreshments will be available.

To celebrate this in the May bank holiday, King street gallery members hosted an open "drop in" workshop day on Saturday 4th May. Children had the opportunity to come in to the gallery, learn something about the art that’s being displayed and have a go at working with clay.  It was a very successful day and all th e participants have now been invited back for a day to finish their clay pieces with the help of our skilled gallery members! Since it's move to a large, new premises on King Street,  the gallery now runs a busy calendar of events with workshops, talks and demonstrations being held regularly by a number of celebrated artists.

These workshops will be a vital arm to the gallery and are turning into a valuable community activity in Carmarthenshire.
