Robert Paul Stokle

The fascination with the study of the sea and sky has been significant throughout my lifetime's work, quiet often more important than the subject itself and with my early grounding in traditional work, the techniques became critical to the way, I later applied myself to the abstract form.

Developing from a handful of impasto work, to a smoother, restrained linear effect creating an avid array of qualities to please the eye. With bold colour contrasts, glows, suggested detail, varied quality of light and most of all, the deception of depth. I rely heavily on my impulses to the composition of the abstract, with often using unfamiliar colours to depict the scene. These unusual, unique, vibrant paintings generate moods and atmosphere that can intrigue and hope to drive the viewer's imagination.
